KU digital credentials can be used for many purposes. These include secure email (using encryption and digital signatures), document signing, strong authentication, and data encryption. The credentials use digital certificates that are compatible with many programs, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
KU credentials are generated by a campus Certification Authority (CA) system operated by KU Information Services. The root certificate needed to verify KU credentials is available to everyone; individual client certificates are currently available only to those participating in pilot applications.
Your computer cannot verify digital certificates issued by the University of Kansas unless the KU Primary Root CA certificate is installed on it. If you have questions about how KU certificates are managed, read the KU policy and practices statements (see link at the right) for more information.
