KU Digital Credentials

Certificate-based digital credentials are available to all KU faculty and staff. They can be used for many purposes, but the primary uses are digitally signing and encrypting email.

Certificates for KU credentials requested through this page are generated by DigiCert. Your certificates will contain your primary email address at the time you request them. You can set it using the Manage Email Aliases quick link before requesting certificates.

DigiCert certificates use a root certificate built into Windows, Mac OS X, and other common operating systems and email clients. Because the root is widely distributed you can digitally sign email to anyone--on or off campus--with no special setup required by the recipient.

In order to send encrypted email you and all recipients must have encryption certificates. You can exchange encrypted email with people outside of KU if they have certificates issued by a recognized certification authority. See the knowledgebase article at:
https://kuit.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0010037
for more information. Installation of the KU root certificate is no longer needed.

Use the "Email Security Setup" link in the navigation bar at the left to request or configure certificates. Use the other navigation bar links for more information.
