ListProc: Owner Commands

Before you start

Commands are communicated to ListProc via email and are read by a computer program, rather than by a human being. Therefore it is very important that the syntax of your commands be exactly correct. ListProc is not forgiving of errors and cannot "guess" what you intended if the syntax is not accurate. Please note following when preparing commands for ListProc.

  • Most ListProc owner commands require the list password, in order to prevent others from executing commands on your list. The list password was provided at the time you received notification that your list was set up. If you do not know your list password, please send email to listadm@ku.edu.
  • Commands are not case-sensitive but passwords are.
  • you must supply items shown in red;
  • ListProc commands are always issued as email messages as follows:
    • Send to listproc@ku.edu.
    • Leave subject line blank.
    • Place only commands (no signature, no extraneous characters) in the message.
    • All commands to listproc@ku.edu must be on one line. If you must break a command onto more than one line, place an & at the end of each continued line.

Commands

Get a list of subscribers

recipients <listname>

Get current settings for the list

review <listname> short

Change welcome message

1. Get the current welcome message:

edit <list> <listpassword> welcome

2. Edit the welcome message as desired. Be sure to delete the following line:

*** Here is the welcome file (WARNING: file automatically locked):

listproc:

put <listname> <listpassword> welcome

Add subscribers

Occasionally you may want to subscribe someone to the list on their behalf. Submit the following to listproc:

add <listname> <listpassword> <address> <name>

For example, to subscribe Ima Jayhawk, whose e-mail address is imajhawk

@ku.edu, to TEST-L (whose password is secret), submit (all on one line):

add TEST-L secret imajhawk@ku.edu Ima Jayhawk

Subscribers who want to subscribe themselves send the following to listproc: sub <listname> <name>

Change the password

The password is case sensitive. The following command should be submitted all on one line.

config <listname> <current-password> password <new-password>
