KU Anywhere is an extension of the KU VPN (Virtual Private Network) service. KU Anywhere allows secure access to resources on the KU network (to use Outlook or access a departmental file server) from computers that are not connected to the KU network, but are connected to the Internet.
NOTE: You do not need to use KU Anywhere if you are on the KU campus, only when you want to access KU technology resources from off campus.
KU faculty, staff, graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), graduate research assistants (GRAs) and emeriti are eligible to use this service. For students, undergraduate and non-GTA/GRA graduate, or retirees, this service is not available at this time.
KU Anywhere will allow you to use Outlook from a remote location, either from home or while traveling. It will also allow you to access files stored on your departmental file server. Please talk to your departmental technical support person if you need access to your departmental file server. Below is an overview of the service.
KU Anywhere: Web
KU Anywhere is accessed through the Kyou portal using your web browser. After you log into the Kyou portal and select the KU Anywhere service, you will be able to use Outlook or access central file servers (such as LSS supported file servers) from a computer off campus. Selecting the KU Anywhere service will also launch the RINGS Security Analyzer that checks to see if your computer is up-to-date with antivirus, a firewall and critical software patches. The security analyzer will display a report, with instructions, if any security updates are needed. Complete instructions.KU Anywhere: Site to Site
This service will automatically provide secure access to KU resources from remote KU sites. No client configuration is necessary to use this service, however additional networking hardware is required. If interested, please contact itcsc@ku.edu
