Firefox

Software@KU: Provided | Recommended | Training | Labs

KU Information Technology recommends the use of Firefox, a less vulnerable Web browser, whenever Internet Explorer is not required. Initial testing has shown that Firefox provides the best functionality for the majority of KU Web sites. Firefox is available free of charge from Mozilla.

Firefox Installation Instructions

  1. Go to www.mozilla.com and click Download Firefox - Free to begin the installation.
  2. Depending on your browser settings you can either run the file "Firefox Setup x.x.x.exe" directly from its current location or save it to a particular location on your computer's hard drive and run it from there.
  3. Follow the instructions given by installer program to complete the installation.
  4. If you are using Windows, install the "IE View" extension that allows you to load sites that require Internet Explorer when you encounter one. Go to "IE View" extension download page.

Pop-up Windows

Some services provided by Kansas University need pop-up windows to be allowed for KU sites. To allow KU sites to use popup windows, do the following from within Firefox:

  1. Go to Tools menu, click Options...
  2. Select the Web Features tab in the options dialog box, and click the button labeled Allowed Sites next to Block Popup Windows.
  3. "Allowed Sites" dialog box will appear. Here enter "www.ku.edu" in the Address of website field, and click the button labeled Allow.
  4. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.

Issues

Following are issues you may encounter when using Firefox

When you try to print/view your bill, make a payment or recharge your KU card under "Finances", a pop up should appear to continue with the process. If pop-ups are blocked you cannot do any of these. Please review pop-up information above.
There are additional features when you use Internet Explorer for Windows that are not available in Firefox.
Remedy is not compatible with Firefox at this time.
