What Is GIS?
GIS (Geographic Information System) software allows you to envision the geographic aspects of a body of data. It lets you query or analyze a database and receive the results in the form of a map.
KU offers ArcGIS software products from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI): ArcGIS includes two desktop products: ArcView and ArcInfo. ArcInfo, is widely recognized as the most powerful and most complete GIS package. ArcView makes many of these capabilities available via an easy-to-learn desktop user interface. For a complete list of labs at KU that have GIS software installed, go to computer labs and select any of the GIS software from the Filter lab list menu to the right and click Filter button.
