What is SAS?

SAS is a flexible and extensible fourth-generation programming language designed for data access, transformation and reporting.  More information about SAS is available on the vendor’s web site.

What versions of SAS are available?

Version 9.1.3 - Service Pack 4 (SP4) and version 8.2 are available for purchase. 

Attention Windows Vista Users! Version 9.1.3 - SP4 is needed for computers running Windows Vista (Enterprise, Ultimate, and Business Editions only). SAS will not run on Windows Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Preium editions. More information about SAS and Vista.

How do I purchase SAS?

SAS licenses are valid from October 1 through September 30 of the following year.  Licenses need to be renewed annually.

Renewals or new orders can be completed online by filling out the SAS order form.

  • KU Faculty, Staff, GTAs and GRAs can purchase the full version of SAS.
  • KU Students can purchase the SAS Student Pack, -- a basic version containing the core SAS components -- for a reduced student rate.
  • KU Departments running computer labs can purchase the SAS Lab Pack, which allows up to 50 installations of SAS in a single computer lab at a reduced rate.  Multiple SAS Lab Packs can be purchased for labs with more than 50 computers.

How much does SAS cost?

  • The full version of SAS (version 9.1.3, SP4) costs $100.00 per year, per license.
  • The KU SAS Student Pack (Student Use Only) costs $50.00 per year, per license.
  • The KU Lab Pack (Lab Use Only) costs $500.00 per year for installation on up to 50 computers in a single lab.
  • The CD Media Pack costs $67.00.

Where can I install SAS?

  • KU Faculty, Staff, GTAs and GRAs can install one copy of SAS on a work computer and on one home computer (or laptop).
  • Students may install the SAS Student Pack software only on one personal computer.
  • Departments managing computer labs may install a SAS Lab Pack on up to 50 lab computers. 

How do I learn how to use SAS?

Workshops are available through Instructional Services. A list of workshops is available online.  Go to the Filter workshop list menu on the right side of the screen,select Data Analysis and Statistics from the –by category- listing, then click the Filter button.  For more information, call or email Instructional Services (864-0410 or training@ku.edu).

Where can I use SAS on campus?

SAS is installed in some computing labs on campus.    For a complete list of labs at KU where SAS is installed, go to computer labs.  Go to the Filter lab list menu to the right , select SAS from the-by software- listing, then click the Filter button.
