Google @ KU
The University of Kansas web site utilizes a local KU Google
search appliance for web-based searches. Any department or organization
following the KU template can easily add this search functionality
by following the instructions at
http://www.ku.edu/site/how/.
How do I set up a search engine specific to my KU web site?
Google "subcollections" provide site-specific searches that limit search results to a specific web site or group of documents. The method for limiting the results is based on your sites web address (URL). For example, to limit search results for the Information Services web site, a subcollection is created to only allow results to be returned that have http://www.informationservices.ku.edu/ in the Web address. Multiple web addresses are allowed for one subcollection, i.e. http://www.informationservices.ku.edu/, http://www.ku.edu/~iserv/, etc.
How do I setup a Google subcollection for my site?
If you do not have a subcollection for your site, or if you have forgotten the name of your subcollection, please send an email request to
webservices@ku.edu and include your name, department, and the URLs that you would like Google to scan.
How often will Google scan my site?
Google re-scans sites every 1 to 3 days. This is also how long it will take for the initial setup to take effect.
Can I tell Google NOT to scan my site?
