Web Development & Interface Design (WDID) provides hosting and development services to offices, departments and faculty at the University of Kansas. Our services include:

Web site evaluation & consulting


Available to: KU Departments, Offices and Faculty

Service Details:

  • Work directly with clients to analyze content, audience, use, etc. of existing web site(s)
  • Help identify necessary resources (staff, software, content, etc.) to improve existing web materials and/or processes for web maintenance
  • Advise developers of best practices and tools for improving and implementing online content
  • Ensure that web materials consider maintenance issues, accessibility, and quality control

Benefits: Improved online content and management of web sites based on best practices and supported tools.
Availability: Determined by scope of project and scheduling of developer resources

Free consulting for offices/departments/individuals not to exceed 3 hours
Additional hours billed at $30 per hour


Web design and implementation - KU Template

Available to: KU Departments, Offices and Faculty

Service Details:

  • Analysis of content, audience, use, etc. of existing web site(s)
  • Identification of key content (existing or new)
  • Conversion of existing materials and creation of new pages in the KU Web template (see http://www.ku.edu/site/how/ for more details)
  • Site mockup for early evaluation by client and/or users
  • Staff training in Dreamweaver to maintain and add to the site following completion of the project
  • Ongoing technical support for Dreamweaver and site structure by phone or scheduled appointment

Benefits: Improved online content and management of web sites based on the KU web template, best practices, and supported tools
Availability: Determined by scope of project and scheduling of developer resources
User Assistance: Dreamweaver support for departmental/office staff
Requirements: The completed web site will be hosted on KU central web servers

Department commits to providing a contact person for the project who will:
  • Provide or revise necessary content
  • Act with authority to approve design and direction of the site
  • Identify departmental staff to maintain site or enter into a maintenance agreement
  • See the project to its end in a timely manner

$600 per site*
* If the scope of the conversion exceeds a standard departmental site, additional hours will be estimated at the beginning of the project at $30 per hour. Web site conversion does not include web database integration or extensive application development/programming


Web design and implementation - Custom site development

Available to: KU Departments, Offices and Faculty

Service Details:

  • Analysis of content, audience, use, etc. of existing web site(s)
  • Identification of key content (existing or new)
  • Creation of visual design and information architecture
  • Site mockup(s) for early evaluation by client and/or users
  • Staff training in Dreamweaver to maintain and add to the site following completion of the project
  • Ongoing technical support for Dreamweaver and site structure by phone or scheduled appointment

Benefits: Improved online content and management of web sites based on best practices, and supported tools
Availability: Determined by scope of project and scheduling of developer resources

Web Maintenance

Available to: KU Departments, Offices and Faculty

Clients may contract with Web Services to maintain existing web sites.
Service includes content updates, additions, and/or reformatting of existing documents (such as Word or other HTML) as requested by the client.
Maintenance does not include redesign of site or other online applications.

Maintenance Contract:

  • $75 for 3 hours/month (use it or lose it time)
  • Monthly maintenance agreements are available and guarantee maintenance requests will be fulfilled in 2-4 business days (usually sooner).
  • 6 month minimum contract required. Number of hours/length of contract may be negotiated with Web Services.
As-Needed Maintenance:
  • $30 per hour (one hour minimum)
  • Scheduled on an "as available" basis with Web Services development staff.
  • Availability of development staff is not guaranteed and maintenance contracts have priority.

Web Application Development (database/programming)

Available to: KU Departments, Offices and Faculty

Web Services provides custom programming and database integration for web based applications. The range of services include:

  • PHP and Perl programming expertise
  • Oracle or MySQL databases
  • Custom user and administrative interfaces

Availability: Determined by scope of project and scheduling of developer resources
Requirements: The completed web site will be hosted on KU central web servers

$40 per hour
